Doris has a BA in Home Economics & Science, and has Masters Degrees in Vocational Administration from NC State University and Science Education from Western Carolina University.

Doris has always believed in volunteerism. She has served on many civic and community groups from beautification to Hospice Patient volunteer. She has also served on various boards including Tryon Painters and Sculptors, Art League of Henderson County and Southern Regional Environmental Education Board. She served on The Rutherford Hospital Foundation Board and then served on the restructuring of that board into the RHI Legacy Foundation.

She believes this foundation will have the unique opportunity to serve the citizens of Rutherford and Polk Counties and provide in areas that have not been fully met.
